Winona State Voter Initiative
Year
For this Campaign I was in a team with 3 of my peers. We were approached by the Winona State Voter Initiative chairperson and asked to develop a visual system and campaign for the upcoming midterm elections in 2022 with the goal being to try and increase student voter turnout for the midterms which already have lower turnouts in general.

To find the root of the problem, my team and I did research into other campaigns for voter awareness. We also created a survey and sent it out to male and female clubs on campus. We asked them a series of questions regarding their knowledge of the upcoming election and then some demographic based questions.
What we found from our survey was that the majority of students didn't think that their vote would count and they didn't know who candidates were. Only 31% of the 150 students that we surveyed knew how to register.
The problem started to become very clear to us. Most student's weren't voting simply because they were not educated enough on the election and process of being ready to vote.
We developed the theme of “YOU HAVE A VOICE” to be in your face and let students know that their vote matters.

Physical Collateral:
We prepared postcards that could be delivered to students in the dorms who are usually younger and have never participated in an election before. The postcards had information on them as well as the link to register to vote.
We aslo made stickers which are always great incentives on campus. They could be handed out at the info events and then work as good advertising on campus as students will put them on laptops and water bottles.
Social Media Presence:
A good way to connect with students and get their attention is through social media. We mocked up a social media series that the Vote Initiative could run that would give information on all of the candidates that would be on the ballot at all levels of government. If the students feel like they know more about who tis on the ballot and what the candidates stand for, they will be more likely to use their voice and vote.

On-Campus Branding:
We created a series of posters that could be printed for bulletin boards or on large windows. We proposed putting these up on the big windows at the cafeteria as it is a high traffic are on campus.
